Emerald landscapes

Implausably green

Some years back I acquired one of those huge boxes of landscape pastels. They arrived and I took one look and thought “I will never use any of those greens”. Even in Yorkshire, the greens are subdued. Early spring for a fortnight is as intense as it gets.

Cue south-east Ireland and the Beara peninsula. I’m here for a month. The greens are breathtaking.

I’m hoping to overcome my fear/dislike of landscape painting, prompted by fear of failure/cliche etc. etc. Photography is my default mode for landscape but the painting challenge is now unavoidably there.

Show opening

There is something very special about the opening of a show with new work. Stress is unavoidable in the few months leading up to it....
