Imagination in play

doll with soldier (study) oil on paper 120cm x 100cm

Painting out of the imagination with absolutely no reference materials to hand, no sketches, no photos and only an internalised prior drawing experience to call on is a disconcerting experience.

The critical internal voice is quick to point out deficiencies as the brain scrabbles for ideas and the hand attempts to paint the images flickering on the periphery of the mind’s eye.

Grey and raining outside. Not much brighter inside.

Show opening

There is something very special about the opening of a show with new work. Stress is unavoidable in the few months leading up to it....
