Belvedere and High Rises across the Buttes Chaumont
Mad impulse to paint outdoors on this fine sunny day. Mad because it meant walking two miles to the view I had in mind with a polythene bag of paints, brushes, quick dry alkyd medium, palette and kitchen paper in one hand and a small canvas in the other with a batty wind coming in from all directions.
It did not proceed very smoothly what with the wind, wet grass and steep slope in the shade, and I lost the plot with the paint and ended up fleeing the scene like a criminal getaway. But there’s something oddly satisfying about battling the odds even if the result isn’t according to plan.
